Guitar Hero Metallica game review

by Patrick Daniels

The one thing I love, family excluded, is video games. Platforming and adventure to RPGs and first person shooter, I like just about everything. lately I have been spending most of my time on the new music rhythm game genre.

Guitar Hero: Metallica, the newest of the genre, is by far, the version of the game that I have most anticipated. I am a long time fan of the band Metallica, and when I heard of this game I was very excited. Metallica is one of the best, baddest and loudest bands throughout time. It was a great match between band and game. Developers have had a few years to get the process right and it worked wonderfully.

I have to say that the upgrades were worth the wait. This is the best looking of all the guitar hero games and the band members are the most realistic in terms of their look and their mannerisms. They are just as bad as their real life counterparts. The thing that makes the game great, aside from the game play, has got to be the music. The music is what makes the game great because when it all comes down to it, if you don't like the music then the game will be much less enjoyable.

Therefore it all comes down to music selection. The developers did a good job of covering most of the bands career. Like a lot of Metallica fans, I would have preferred the game focused on Metallica's back catalog and stayed away from last three or four albums, but overall the developers made great picks.

I am happy that the developers axed the idea of just following the career like they did on the Aerosmith game. That game seemed underwhelming and almost rushed. It doesn't feel like this new game and in fact the Aerosmith game doesnt even have the full band mode that we will all expect to see in every version of new guitar hero games. Overall, this Metallica game is the fun experience that I and millions of other fans had hoped for.
